INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler Bulldogs improved to 20-18 on the year with a 3-2 victory over IU Kokomo on Wednesday afternoon.
Brody McGrath helped BU reach 20 wins by drawing a bases loaded walk which scored
Jacob Margroff.
McGrath nearly hit a walk-off grand slam during his last at-bat. He squared up on a pitch and smoked it down the leftfield line, but the umpire would call it foul to extend the game. McGrath dug back into the box and walked for the second time in the game and the 24th time this season.
Scoring opened up in the first with
Zach Jarosz scoring off a wild pitch. The BU lead would move to 2-0 in the fifth after an RBI single from
Harrison Freed.
The Cougars would knot the score at 2-2 in the seventh with a pair of RBI singles. The visitors threatened again in the ninth, but Freed would throw out Snow at the plate to keep the game tied.
Connor Christman highlighted the batting order with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Dalton Clarke matched him for IU Kokomo with three hits in five at-bats.
The win would go to closer
Jack Pilcher (1-1). He was one of seven Bulldogs to throw against the Cougars.
Kevin Napoleon got the start and tossed the first two innings.
Greg Gilbert and
Alex Voss excelled out of the pen with four and three strikeouts respectively.
Butler will now shift their focus to the weekend series vs. Seton Hall. The two teams will play at St. John's home field due to ongoing renovations in South Orange, N.J.
