Providence came away with a 4-0 win over Butler Sunday morning in Rhode Island. The match-up served as the series finale for the two teams and the weekend three-game series.
The Friars are now 28-19 overall and 9-8 in BIG EAST play. Butler falls to 15-31 (3-11 BIG EAST).
Allison Abbatiello got the Friars on the board first with a three-run home run in the bottom of the second. Vanessa Portillo added a solo home run for an insurance run in the sixth.
That would be more than enough for PC starter Daniela Alvarez. The freshman surrendered only one hit, a seventh-inning double from
Christina Candotti, in going the distance. She struck out seven.
Freshman
Karli Ricketts took the loss in the circle for the Bulldogs. She struck out eight, while allowing the four runs.
Alvarez picked up all three wins in the weekend series, going a total of 16 innings, allowing six hits and no runs. She is now 17-6 on the season.
The Bulldogs will close the 2019 season next weekend, hosting St. John's in a three-game series beginning Saturday. The team's four seniors will be recognized throughout the weekend.
