Late Runs Push Seton Hall Past Butler 9-4

Queens, N.Y. – The Bulldogs took a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning, but were unable to hold on for the road win as Seton Hall scored three in the sixth, three in the seventh and two more in the eighth to win the weekend series. Butler is now 21-20 overall.

Seton Hall struck first with a solo run in the bottom of the first inning on a groundout from Toke. The Bulldogs would recover with two runs in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. Connor Christman put Butler on the scoreboard with a single to left that scored both Zach Parker and Brody McGrath.

The BU lead increased to 3-1 in the fifth with Freed putting a ball in play to the left side of the infield. He was credited with a fielder's choice and Smith would come around to score on a throwing error.

Santorelli and Villa would ignite the comeback for SHU in the sixth. Santorelli singled to score Shedler and a two RBI single through the left side from Villa would knot the score at 4-4.

The go-ahead run came in the seventh off a Toke RBI single. Del Castillo and Toke would also touch home plate in the frame off wild pitches. The nail in the coffin came in the bottom of the eighth with a two RBI single to right center from Dana.

James Gargano and Christman highlighted the offense while Kevin Napoleon would lead BU on the mound. The left-hander only allowed one run off one hit over five full innings of work. Alex Voss would throw the sixth inning, which sent the loss to Ryan Schmit (0-2). Additional 'Dawgs to pitch in the series finale included Jack Pilcher and Derek Drees.

BU will return to action on Tuesday, April 30 with a game at Purdue Fort Wayne. First pitch is slated for 3 PM.
