Christina Candotti's home run in the top of the eighth inning gave Butler a 4-3 win over Seton Hall Sunday in South Orange, N.J.
The win puts Butler at 2-4 in BIG EAST play. Seton Hall is now 4-3 after winning both games of Saturday's doubleheader.
Alyssa Graves got the win for the Bulldogs, going all eight innings. She tied her career-high with 12 strikeouts. All three of Seton Hall's runs came in the bottom of the first inning. The Pirates were limited to just four hits by Graves, with three of those coming in the first inning.
Butler's first run of the contest came in the top of the first when sophomore
Maddie Moore doubled in
Jenna Foreman. The Bulldogs inched closer in the third thanks to
Kaitlin Doud's fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to pull Butler within, 3-2.
Butler tied the game in the sixth when Candotti's lead-off double eventually led to pinch-runner
Alyssa Garcia scoring on a wild pitch.
That run would send the contest to extra innings and Candotti provided the game-winner with a home run to left field with one out in the top of the eighth. It was her third home run of the season and her second of the weekend series.
The Bulldogs pounded out 10 hits, which included two apiece from Moore, Candotti and freshman
Bri Avery.
Reganne Camp took the loss for Seton Hall, surrendering the final two Butler runs as she pitched the final 5.2 innings in the circle.
Butler is now 13-22 overall on the season.
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday, hosting Purdue Fort Wayne in Indianapolis for a non-conference affair. Butler then welcomes Georgetown for a three-game weekend BIG EAST series.
