The Butler women's lacrosse team plays their final non-conference game this week, making the short trip to South Bend to take on No. 4 Notre Dame on Wednesday. First draw is set for 7 p.m. The Bulldogs then continue BIG EAST play on Saturday, hosting No. 16 Denver at Noon.
Butler (3-10, 0-2 BIG EAST) is coming off a 16-3 setback at Marquette this past Saturday.
Ashley Guerra scored her 25
th goal of the season, while
Madeline Hooks and
Holly Hall had Butler's other two scores.
Guerra has now scored at least one goal in every game this season except for one. She has tallied a season-high five goals in two games so far against Detroit Mercy and Wofford. The sophomore is currently tied for fourth in the BIG EAST in goals scored and her 16 assists are tied for seventh. Her 71 shots are good for fourth in the conference.
Freshman
Holly Hall has been active in the midfield for the Bulldogs, scoring 10 goals over the course of her 13 games played. Defensively, she has caused 13 turnovers and picked up 16 ground balls. The rookie has also won 19 draw controls, second on the team to
Ashley Steffes' 32.
On the defensive end,
Carly Hewitt continues to be a problem for opponents. The senior captain has caused a team-high 25 turnovers and picked up 33 ground balls, also a team high.
Amanda Rumsey has made 93 saves in her 13 games in goal, registering a .389 save percentage. Freshman
Katie McGrath has seen nine games in goal for the Bulldogs, posting a .451 save percentage with 32 saves.
About No. 4 Notre Dame
Notre Dame is currently 11-2 on the season, with its only losses to No. 1 Boston College (13-9) and then-ranked No. 4 Syracuse (10-9). The Fighting Irish have registered signature wins over then-ranked No. 3 North Carolina (9-7), No. 5 Virginia (10-9), and most recently, No. 21 Virginia Tech (15-13).
Maddie Howe leads the charge for the Irish, leading the team in goals (39), assists (17), and points (56). Andie Aldave also adds 31 goals and 14 assists for Notre Dame. Aldave was recently named a First Team Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American, while Howe earned third team accolades.
Samantha Giacolone, a Second Team Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American, has seen every game in the cage for the Irish, making 98 saves with a 7.50 goals-against average. The senior has also posted a .530 save percentage in her 13 games.
This will be the first match-up between the Bulldogs and Irish.
About No. 16 Denver
The Pioneers (10-2) are off to their best start in the BIG EAST since joining the conference. They sit at 2-0 with wins over No. 22 Georgetown, 12-9, and Old Dominion, 20-1. The Pioneers also have an 18-2 win over Louisville and an 8-7 victory over Stanford. They will battle Fresno State on Thursday before making the trip to Indianapolis.
Eliza Radochonski is tied for the lead in points with 45. The sophomore attacker has 22 goals and 23 assists. Hannah Liddy also has 45 points on 33 assists and 12 goals. The Bulldog defense will have to keep an eye on Quintin Hoch-Bullen as she leads the team in goals with 35.
Carson Gregg has been solid in goal for the Pioneers, posting a 6.98 goals-against average and a .485 save percentage. She has made 63 saves over 12 games.
The last match-up between the Bulldogs and Pioneers took place during the 2018 season on March 31. Denver took a 16-1 win over the Bulldogs in Colorado.

The Bulldogs will have the week off before battling Villanova in their final home game of the season on April 20. First draw is set for Noon. Butler will play its final regular season game on April 27, making the trip to Norfolk, Va. to battle Old Dominion.
