Mason Dragos and
Thomas Brennan have earned All-BIG EAST Honors following the 2018-19 season, the BIG EAST announced today (May 1). Dragos was named a First Team member for the fourth straight season, while
Thomas Brennan earned Second Team honors after his first season as a Bulldog.
The major awards and All-BIG EAST team were voted on by the eight head coaches who could not cast ballots for themselves or their own student-athletes.
After winning the 2019 BIG EAST Championship, St. John's earned Coaching Staff of the Year and Andrei Crapcenco was tabbed Player of the Year. DePaul's Vito Tonejc was named Freshman of the Year.
Dragos earned his fourth BIG EAST First Team honor after posting a 20-6 record at the No. 1 singles position in 2019, including two wins over conference opponents Marquette and Villanova, and a win against Xavier. His impressive singles record also includes wins against then-ranked #73 Kareem Allaf (Iowa) and #113 Nico Mostardi (Cleveland State). The senior finished the season with a 13-10 overall doubles record, with wins against Marquette and St. John's. Â
During the fall season, Dragos was a semi-finalist in doubles competition at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, a finalist in the doubles A-flight at the Purdue Invitational, and champion of the singles A-flight at the Western Michigan Invite.
Brennan joined the Bulldogs before the start of the 2019 spring season and ended the year 20-6 in singles play (1-0 at #1, 16-4 at #2, 3-2 at #4). He posted conference wins against Marquette, DePaul, Villanova and Xavier. He also secured the match point at the No. 2 spot against five different opponents. The rookie was 14-9 in doubles play, including wins over St. John's, Marquette, and Villanova.
