The Bulldogs wrapped up the 2019 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in New York, N.Y., on Saturday afternoon, as the men posted the best performance in the six-year history as members of the BIG EAST Conference.

The Butler men set a record of total team points since joining the BIG EAST with 127. That score placed the men fourth out of seven teams. The Butler women scored a total of 69 points and placed sixth out of eight teams.

"This was a complete team performance," said Butler coach
Matt Roe. "We scored more points on both sides than what was projected on paper. We had more athletes in finals than we were projected to achieve. We surprised it lots of areas. That said, as a program, we were not surprised. In fact, our group walked away knowing there is more out there for both sides. That is exciting."

Villanova won both the men's and women's titles with 198 and 217 points, respectively.

Euan Makepeace led the record-setting men's group on Saturday as he won the men's 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:15.21.

For the third consecutive season,
Allie Vogeler is the women's 400-meter hurdles BIG EAST Champion. This was the second day in a row that Vogeler was the only finisher to break the one-minute mark as she crossed the line in 58.98.

In the women's heptathlon,
Niki Ezeh set a new school record with a score of 4,815 points.Â
Nina Hilt also broke the previous school record and is now second all-time with a score of 4,235. Ezeh finished second overall in the event and Hilt was sixth. Olivia Morgan of Villanova won the event with a score of 4,901.

Johnny Leverenz finished as the runner-up in the men's 1,500 meters with a time of 3:59.89. Leverenz held the lead at the final turn before a late charge from Case Comber of Villanova, who won the event with a time of 3:59.59.Â
Eric Baugh added an eighth-place finish for Butler at 4:01.81.

A pair of seniors scored points for the Bulldogs in the men's 100-meter dash with
Richard Clark finishing second with a time of 10.85 and
Tim Vestuto in seventh in 11.18. Clark also ran the men's 200 meters where he finished fifth with a time of 22.62.

On the women's side of the 100-meter dash, Vogeler placed fourth with a time of 12.30. She was followed by a pair of younger Bulldogs in Saturday's final as
Carson Fields placed seventh at 12.60, and eighth-place finisher
Lily Hess crossed the line in 12.74.

Rebecca Collester finished fourth with a time of 25.17 in the women's 200 meters. She was joined by Hess who finished seventh in 25.89.

Wade Walder scored in two events on Saturday as he finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.57 and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.01.Â
Garrett Kern joined Walder in the 110-meter hurdles and finished in 15.49, good for seventh.

The Butler relay teams were highlighted by the men's 4x100 group of Vestuto, Clark,
Jake Kellersohn, and
Sam Robinson. They finished in third with a time of 41.81. The other relay finishes included the men's 4x400 (finishing fifth), the men's 4x800 which finished seventh, the women's 4x400 (fifth), and the women's 4x800 finishing seventh.

Josephine Thestrup ran a time of 4:36.27 in the women's 1,500 meters, which was good for fourth place.
Corinna Pena joined her and finished in seventh with a time of 4:39.53. Josette Norris of Georgetown won the event with a time of 4:34.54.

Thestrup and
Mia Beckham finished 5-6 in the women's 5,000-meter run with times of 17:07.43 and 17:20.97, respectively. The finish was a personal-best for Beckham.

Madeline Miller finished eighth in the women's 400-meter dash as she crossed the line in 58.79

In the field on day two,
Luke Russell finished seventh in the men's triple jump with a mark of 12.79m. Ezeh placed eighth in women's shot put with a mark of 12.30m and Hilt placed 12th in women's high jump, clearing 1.50m.

Luke Hofrichter finished third in the decathlon with 5,288 points.

The Bulldogs will now wait to learn the NCAA Regional fate for several student-athletes.
