The Bulldogs close out the 2019 campaign with a three-game series against BIG EAST foe St. John's this weekend in Indianapolis. Play is scheduled to include a Saturday doubleheader followed by a single game Sunday. Both days are slated for a noon first pitch.
Saturday's doubleheader will be streamed live on the Butler Bulldogs Facebook page. Sunday's game will air on the BIG EAST Digital Network, which now includes a live feed through Caffeine.TV and Twitter.
St. John's enters the final weekend of the BIG EAST regular season with a 13-3 conference record. The Red Storm lead the BIG EAST and have secured one of the four spots in the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament next weekend. Butler has been eliminated from BIG EAST Tournament contention.
This weekend, Butler's four seniors will be recognized in a pregame ceremony Saturday.
Sammy Andersen,
Kaitlin Doud,
Jenna Foreman and
Cheyenne Thompson were part of the 2015 BIG EAST Tournament championship team, which included the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance.
Butler's strength this season has been found in the circle as the Bulldogs lead the BIG EAST in strikeouts with 289. Butler's 3.65 ERA is third in the conference.
Alyssa Graves leads the BIG EAST with 169 strikeouts. Those Ks have come in 136.2 innings of work. Her 3.23 ERA is seventh among conference hurlers, while opposing batters are hitting only .234 off her in 2019. That figure is fourth in the conference. In BIG EAST games only, the opposing batting average against Graves drops to a conference-best .193.
Freshman
Karli Ricketts is tenth in the BIG EAST in ERA, posting a 3.53 figure this season. Her 93 strikeouts are eighth in the conference. Ricketts' best outing of her young career was a five-inning no-hitter against Green Bay March 8.
Freshman
Lauren Fey leads the Bulldogs in hitting at a .317 clip this season. Fey has 11 multi-hit games on the season, including five hits against La Salle March 17. Those five hits tied a Butler single-game record.
Maddie Moore's average of .305 is second on the team, followed by Foreman's .303 mark.
Foreman's 28 stolen bases lead the BIG EAST and her 46 hits are eighth in the conference entering the final series of the season. Those Butler-high 46 hits are in large part due to a team-best 13 multi-hit games in 2019. Foreman is approaching her third consecutive 30-stolen base season, which has contributed to her 104 career swipes. A year ago, Foreman set Butler single-season records for both hits (63) and stolen bases (35).
In BIG EAST play, junior
Christina Candotti has a slugging percentage of .767. That is fourth in the conference. Her on-base percentage of .459 is tenth in the BIG EAST. She has three home runs and four doubles in BIG EAST play.
Ricketts leads the team with 20 RBI, followed closely by 19 each from seniors Doud and Andersen. Doud's five home runs pace the Bulldogs, who have gotten long balls from eight different players this season.
