Wade Walder will represent Butler as he competes against the nation's best in the NCAA Track & Field Outdoor championships. The meet begins Wednesday (running through Saturday) at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Â
Fans will be able to watch the meet live on ESPN3 and WatchESPN; a complete broadcast schedule is available at
NCAA.com. Live results can be found
here.
Â
The decathlon will be the first NCAA championship competition of Walder's Bulldog career and will take place over the course of two days. The first event will begin at 3:30 p.m. (Eastern) on Wednesday. Five events will take place Wednesday and five more are scheduled for Thursday, with the first event being the 110-meter hurdles at 2 p.m. (Eastern).
Â
Of the 24 total qualifiers in the decathlon, Walder enters seeded 23rd with his school record of 7,355 points. He set that mark at the Bryan Clay Invitational earlier this season when he broke his previous school record of 7,020. USC freshman Ayden Owens enters the competition seeded first after putting up 8,130 points earlier in the season.
Â
Walder set personal-bests in the 400-meters, pole vault, and the 110 and 400-meter hurdles throughout the course of the outdoor season.
Â
The decathlon -- and the heptathlon on the women's side -- are the events that are not competed at the Regional/Preliminary round. Only 24 athletes nationally earn the opportunity to compete for the national championship.
