Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | John Dedman

No. 5 @ButlerMBB Falls at DePaul

Behind 10-of-17 shooting from behind the arc and 32 free throw attempts, DePaul was able to knock off fifth-ranked Butler, 79-66, Saturday afternoon at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.

Paul Reed and Jalen Coleman-Lands combined for 43 points for the Blue Demons, who improve to 13-5 overall and pick up their first BIG EAST win.

For Butler, the team's second consecutive loss moves its record to 15-3 (3-2 BIG EAST). The Bulldogs travel to Villanova for a Tuesday night contest.

DePaul's tenth three-pointer of the game came with 7:11 remaining and gave the Blue Demons their largest lead of the game at 70-49. DePaul kept Butler at arm's length throughout the second half, thanks in large part to a strong effort at the free throw line.

DePaul went to the line 32 times and made 25 of those attempts.

DePaul took a 44-34 advantage into the halftime locker room after leading by as much as 16 in the first half. A 10-2 run by the Bulldogs had cut the lead to four points (35-31) with 2:14 to play before a strong closing stretch by the host Blue Demons. Reed had 18 in the first half, including 13 of DePaul's first 22 as they built an early 22-6 edge.

Reed went 8-of-9 from the field and added a game-high nine rebounds to his 23 points. Coleman-Lands had 20 points on just seven attempts from the field.

Kamar Baldwin led Butler with 16 points, while Jordan Tucker scored 13. Sean McDermott added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Nine of Butler's 17 turnovers came in the first half as DePaul mounted their initial lead. The Bulldogs shot only 42 percent from the field, including 7-of-21 from three-point range.

The Bulldogs continue their two-game road swing with a Tuesday night tip at Villanova in what will be a match-up of Top 25 programs. The 7 p.m. start will be broadcast nationally on FS1. The next home game for Butler is Friday when Marquette visits Hinkle Fieldhouse.
