For the second time in her career, Butler sophomore
Karli Ricketts has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week. The conference office made the announcement Monday, Feb. 10.
Â
Ricketts posted a 2-0 mark in the circle for the Bulldogs during the opening weekend of 2020 play. Ricketts hurled a shutout against Western Illinois Sunday, allowing only two hits in five innings in the 8-0 run-rule win. In Friday's game against Evansville, Ricketts struck out 11 in a 3-2 complete-game win.
Â
For the weekend, Ricketts had a 1.17 ERA, allowing only six hits in 12.0 innings of work. At the plate, Ricketts also had two home runs on the weekend.
Â
For Ricketts, it's a "back-to-back" weekly honor for the right-hander, who also earned the recognition in the final week of the 2019 regular season.
Â
Sophomore
Lauren Fey earned a spot on the five-member BIG EAST weekly honor roll. Fey led Butler's offense, hitting .600 and scoring eight runs. Fey's on-base percentage was even more impressive as she added five walks for a .700 mark. Fey had nine hits in 15 at-bats. She had four stolen bases during the weekend, knocking in one run as well.
Â
After a 4-1 opening weekend, the Bulldogs return to action Friday with six games over the weekend in Florida as part of the Madeira Beach Spring Games. Video streams of the contests will be available on FloSoftball.com (subscription required).
