@ButlerWLacrosse Sets Single-Game Scoring Record in 22-0 Win Against Hanover

The Butler women's lacrosse team set the single-game scoring record while securing a 22-0 win in the season opener against Hanover on Sunday, Feb. 16 at Varsity Field.

The win was also the Bulldogs first shutout and the first season opener win in program history.

Coach Pilson on the Win
"It was great to see our young talent step up at the collegiate level," said head coach Cecil C. Pilson. "It was great to see a huge diversity in scoring in our first game of the 2020 campaign."

Goals on Goals on Goals
2019 scoring leader Ashley Guerra netted what would ultimately be the game-winning goal at 28:38 in the first half. The Bulldogs went on to score 14 more goals in the first period, followed by seven in the second half. Butler recorded assists on nine of the 22 goals.

16 different Bulldogs scored in the match and two, Lindsey Schreiber and Gabryelle Bodine, recorded hat tricks.  Both scored all three goals each in the first half of play. Schreiber netted her trio of goals in a 10 minute span. Bodine's third goal put Butler up 10-0, effectively starting the running clock for the remainder of the game.

Other notable scorers included Katelyn Murphy with two goals and Sydney Pattison with a goal and two assists. Morgan Paige, Ashley Steffes and Morgan Cox each had a goal and an assist in the win.

Defense by the Numbers
The Bulldogs held the Panthers to just three shots, none of which were on goal. Butler also had a hand in 11 of Hanover's 18 turnovers.

Lindsey McShea picked up four ground balls individually, as many as Hanover had as a team. The Bulldogs owned 18 of the 22 total draw controls of the game.
