@ButlerWLacrosse Moves to 2-0 After 19-4 Win Over Detroit Mercy

For the first time in program history, the Bulldogs are 2-0 to start the season. Butler took down Detroit Mercy, 19-4, on Thursday, Feb. 20 at Varsity Field. The Titans move to 0-3, while the Bulldogs 2-0 record ties them with No. 10 Denver for first in the BIG EAST rankings.

The Bulldogs got off to a hot start, as Gabryelle Bodine netted the opening goal just 40 seconds into the first half. Just three minutes later, Layla Tattersfield drilled her first goal of the season, putting Butler up 2-0.

The Titans answered shortly after, as Taryn McManus got one past Bulldog's goalie Amanda Rumsey on a free position shot, bringing the Titans within one. But, that was the closest Detroit Mercy would get to the Butler through the remainder of the game.

Lindsey Schreiber, who posted a hat trick in Sunday's win, netted back-to-back goals to put the Bulldogs up 4-0.  Detroit's Kamryn Corraro tabbed the only other goal of the half for the Titans, while Butler went on to net eight more to kick in the running clock at 12-2 before the half ended.

In the second period, Butler stretched the gap to as many as 12 before Detroit's Kristina Ellis scored a man-up goal. Ellis would also score the Titan's fourth and final goal.

For Butler, 10 different Bulldogs scored in the contest. Ashley Guerra led the Bulldogs with five goals, and Schreiber added four of her own. Bodine and freshman Campbell Connors both had two goals and two assists in the win.

Defensively, Mary Davide picked up a game-high four ground balls and Mary Larson caused two turnovers. Elizabeth Davide had a career-high 10 ball controls.

The Bulldogs will take their 2-0 record on road to face Central Michigan (0-1). Game time in Mount Pleasant, Mich. is set for 12 p.m.
