Host Creighton used a strong showing from three-point range to run by Butler, 81-59, Sunday afternoon in Omaha, Neb. The No. 15 Bluejays went 15-for-26 from behind the arc in the win.
With the result, Creighton improves to 22-6 on the season and 11-4 in BIG EAST play. No. 21 Butler falls to 19-9 (7-8 BIG EAST).
Marcus Zegarowski led Creighton with 25 points. He made all seven of his three-point attempts. Christian Bishop added 19. The Bluejays shot 50 percent overall.
A Ty-Shon Alexander three-pointer in the closing seconds of the first half was Creighton's tenth of the opening 20 minutes and capped a 17-2 run that saw the Bluejays enter the locker rooms with a 40-21 advantage.
Seniors
Henry Baddley and
Sean McDermott led the Bulldogs with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Bryce Nze had nine points and seven rebounds.
Senior
Kamar Baldwin injured his ankle late in the first half and was held out the remainder of the game.
Butler will have the next week off before returning to action Saturday, hosting DePaul at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The 6:30 p.m. tip is sold out. That is one of only three regular-season games remaining for Butler, including Senior Night in Indianapolis March 4 when St. John's visits Hinkle.
