Evansville pushed across two runs in the bottom of the ninth to take a 4-3 Sunday win over Butler at Bosse Field in Evansville.
After the weekend set with the Purple Aces, Butler is now 6-3 on the season.
The teams entered the ninth inning tied 2-2. In the top half of the inning,
Nick Ortega's single to left field scored
James Gargano to give Butler the lead. Evansville was able to get out of the inning without further damage after Butler had runners on second and third with one out.
Evansville scored twice in the bottom of the ninth, first on a wild pitch and then on a walk-off RBI single by Robbie Wilkes.
Ortega was involved in all the scoring for Butler on Sunday, going 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run, along with a walk. He scored that run on an
Andy Bennett sacrifice fly in the fourth and singled in
Zach Jarosz in the seventh.
Joe Graziano (4.1) and
Greg Gilbert (3.2) split the first eight innings on the mound for the Bulldogs.
Jack Pilcher took the loss after coming on in the ninth.
Six Evansville pitchers took the mound Sunday.
Gargano also had two of Butler's six hits.
The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday, hosting Saint Francis (Ind.). It is the first home contest of the season for Butler.
