Butler split a pair of Wednesday games in Madeira Beach, Fla., Wednesday as the team's Spring Break trip continued. With the results, Butler is now 15-8 on the season.
The Bulldogs opened the day with an impressive 4-0 win over Toledo as sophomore right-hander
Karli Ricketts threw a one-hitter. Ricketts struck out 11 and did not allow a walk (although she did hit one batter) in one of the most dominating performances of her Butler career.
Two swings of the bat provided all the offense the Bulldogs would need as senior
Madi Christiansen homered to right field in the fourth inning to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
Kinley Longest hit the first home run of her Butler career in the seventh inning as the two-run shot gave the Bulldogs a 4-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs maximized their five hits.
In the second game of the day, the Bulldogs fell to South Dakota State, 3-2, in nine innings. The Jackrabbits scored a run in the top of the ninth utilizing the international tiebreaker (a runner placed on second to start the inning).
Butler junior left-hander
Alyssa Graves was the hard-luck loser, pitching well over nine innings. She surrendered only five hits and two walks. South Dakota State scored two runs in the top of the sixth to even the contest.
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as senior
Christina Candotti connected on her third home run of the season.
Due to travel decisions made by teams scheduled to be part of the field in Madeira Beach, several changes to the weekend schedule have been made in terms of opponents and times. The schedule page of ButlerSports.com has been updated.
