ORLANDO – A three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning would separate UCF from Butler on Sunday in the getaway game. BU moves to 7-6 after the weekend while the Knights move forward to 15-2.
UCF scored an unearned run off a groundout in the first inning and would enjoy a 4-0 lead after two with Archer hitting a long ball with two on board. Butler broke up the shutout in the sixth with
Duncan Hewitt scoring off a wild pitch.
Butler was limited to just three hits on the day.
Brody McGrath,
Maison Stites and
Matt McElwain all got on with singles. UCF pitcher Sheridan moved to 2-0 on the year after a six-inning outing. The lefty struck out five and walked three.
The loss went to
Joe Graziano (1-1). Butler used
John MacCauley,
Jon Vore and
Nick Eaton in relief. The bullpen was great, allowing just one hit over the final 3.2 innings.
Butler will stay in Florida for two more games during Spring Break week. They will play Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday and Saint Joseph's on Wednesday.
