@ButlerMBB's Baldwin Selected to All-BIG EAST First Team

Butler's Kamar Baldwin has been selected as an All-BIG EAST First Team honoree. The conference released the All-BIG EAST First and Second Teams, Honorable Mention and the All-Freshman Team Sunday, March 8. The league's head coaches choose the all-conference squads and are not permitted to vote for their own players.

In 18 BIG EAST games, Baldwin averaged 17.9 points per contest, which is third in the conference. He also ranks in the top 15 in assists, steals, and free throw percentage in conference games.  So far this season in all games, Baldwin is averaging 16.2 points per game to go along with 3.3 assists.

Baldwin was a second-team All-BIG EAST selection in 2018-19 and earned BIG EAST All-Freshman Team honors in 2016-17. The conference's head coaches also placed Baldwin on this preseason's All-BIG EAST First Team.

The 6-1 senior guard capped the regular season Saturday night with a career-high 36 points, and the game-winning three-pointer, as the Bulldogs knocked off Xavier in Cincinnati. Those 36 points moved him past both Matt Howard and Kellen Dunham into fourth place on Butler's career scoring list with 1,956 points.

Baldwin becomes the fourth Bulldog to earn All-BIG EAST First Team honors in Butler's seven seasons as a member of the conference. He joins Kelan Martin (2017-18), Andrew Chrabascz (2016-17), and Kellen Dunham (2014-15).

The unanimous picks to the first team in 2019-20 are Markus Howard of Marquette, Myles Powell of Seton Hall and Saddiq Bey of Villanova.  The three other All-BIG EAST First Team selections are Baldwin, Creighton's Ty-Shon Alexander and Xavier's Naji Marshall.

The BIG EAST Player of the Year will come from the All-BIG EAST First Team.  The conference will announce Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Freshman of the Year and the Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, March 11.  The press conference will be held on the first day of the BIG EAST Tournament Presented by Jeep at Madison Square Garden at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Other league individual awards -- BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player, Sixth Man Award and Sportsmanship Award -- will be announced Monday morning, March 9.

The All-BIG EAST Second Team includes players from five different squads for the second straight year.

The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 22-9 record, including a 10-8 mark in BIG EAST play. Butler opens the 2020 BIG EAST Tournament as the No. 5 seed, and will match up with fourth-seeded Providence Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals at Madison Square Garden.
