INDIANAPOLIS – Head Coach
Sharon Clark added a talented outside hitter to the program this week by bringing in
Allyson Cathey. The New Albany, Ind. native will have two years of eligibility remaining after playing two years at Penn State to open her collegiate career.
"Allyson is a great addition to our team," Clark stated. "She is a natural athlete and a true terminator. She caught our eye during her sophomore year of high school and she has continued to grow and blossom. She will be a force in the BIG EAST and hard to stop!"
As a sophomore in 2019, Cathey played in 93 sets, covering 27 matches. She finished the season with 186 kills, 36 blocks and 57 digs. She saw playing time immediately as a freshman by competing in 54 sets over 26 matches in 2018. That year Cathey posted 106 kills with 20 blocks and 23 digs.
The 6-1 outside hitter finished her high school career at New Albany as the school record holder in kills with 1,978. She hit at a .373 clip and added 296 blocks, 843 digs and 129 aces. She logged 520 kills, 300 digs, 94 blocks and 31 aces as a senior which allowed her to post three-straight seasons of 500-plus kills. Her production on the court made her the 71st ranked player on the 2018 PrepVolleyball.com Top 100 Senior Aces list.
