The Butler men's tennis team enjoyed success in singles play on Sunday morning and early afternoon to conclude the Vredevelt Invitational in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Sr.
Drew Michael beat Cleveland State's Hugo Chatras (6-4, 6-2), while Jr.
Michael Karr defeated Chicago State's Max Sandoval [7-5, 7-6(1)] for the Bulldogs on Sunday morning as the team went 2-3 overall in Round 2 of singles action.
Butler went a perfect 5-0 as a team in the third and final round of singles play, as Michael and R-Sr.
Michael Dickson beat Michigan State's Reed Crocker and Jack Winkler, respectively, both in straight sets. Sr.
Thomas Brennan and Jr. Alvaro Huete had to go to tiebreakers in their matches, but were able to defeat Western Michigan's Fynn Lohse and Peter Kuszynski, respectively. Karr beat Chicago State's Jesus Perez Plaza (6-1, 6-3) in the other matchup.
Brennan and Dickson combined to beat Notre Dame's duo of Brian Bilsey and Yu Zhang 6-3 for the only doubles win of the invitational for the Bulldogs. Overall, Butler went 9-6 in singles and 1-7 in doubles matches on the weekend. Full results can be found below.
In Round 1 of singles play on Saturday morning, Dickson defeated Michigan State's Jarreau Campbell in straight sets (6-2, 6-2), and Huete won in a tiebreaker [6-7(4), 6-3, 10-5] over Michigan State's Winkler.
The Bulldogs will return to competition at the Ball State Invitational in Muncie, Ind., on Oct. 16 and 17.
