INDIANAPOLIS -
The Butler volleyball team plays at home for the second consecutive week, hosting Villanova on Friday at 6 p.m. before matching up with Georgetown on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs (9-10, 3-3 BIG EAST) have split each of their first three weekends of conference play after beating St. John's then falling to Seton Hall last weekend.

- Jaymeson Kinley earned recognition on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season for her strong play over the weekend (37 total digs and 6.17 digs/set).
- Kinley leads the BIG EAST in total digs (366) and digs per set (5.38), ranking No. 7 and No. 10 nationally in those categories, respectively.
- Butler served up a season-best 12 aces against St. John's. It was the second time this season that the team had more aces than service errors (12 to 11), with the other one vs. Youngstown St. (6 to 5).
- The 12 aces are the most for a team in a BIG EAST conference match this season.
- The Bulldogs lead the BIG EAST in total digs (1,164) and total attacks (2,651), ranking No. 13 and No. 16 nationally in those categories, respectively.
- Melody Davidson ranks second in the BIG EAST in scoring (291 points) and third in total kills (252).
- Caroline Cleveland has upped her game in conference play, averaging 2.4 digs and 0.4 aces per set in BIG EAST matches compared to 1.6 digs and 0.24 aces per set in nonconference matches.
- Butler's opponents are outscoring the Bulldogs this season, 23.0 to 21.8 average score per set, through 68 sets.
- Madison Friebel returned to the court and posted 22 assists, six digs and a career-high four aces against St. John's before having 33 assists and 13 digs vs. Seton Hall.
- The Bulldogs will play a repeat opponent for the first time this season when they host Villanova. The next four scheduled opponents will all be the second matches of their respective season series.

SCOUTING VILLANOVA: The Wildcats check in with a 10-8 record (2-4 BIG EAST) with a sweep of Georgetown on Wednesday followed by a four-set loss to UConn on Friday last week. This will be Villanova's first road match of the conference season after its first six BIG EAST matches were at home. Sophomore OH Riley Homer leads the Wildcats and ranks third in the conference with 3.71 kills per set (230 total). Junior setter Belle Morgan ranks high on the BIG EAST leaderboard in assists/set, coming in at fourth with 9.79.

Butler leads the all-time series with the Wildcats 10-6 after dropping a match earlier this month at Villanova. The Bulldogs won six in a row at home against the Wildcats before dropping their last match at Hinkle in five sets in 2019.

SCOUTING GEORGETOWN: The Hoyas come to town with a 5-12 record (1-5 BIG EAST) after picking up their first win of the conference season last week vs. UConn in four sets. Freshman OH Mary Grace Goyena leads Georgetown with 179 kills while also adding 44 digs and 36 blocks. Senior L Jessica Cusi leads the team in digs (304) and aces (22). Butler won the match on Oct. 1 at Georgetown in four sets (19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 30-28). The Bulldogs got match-highs in kills from Melody Davidson (18) and in digs from Jaymeson Kinley (29).

Butler leads the all-time series over Georgetown 13-3 after the win in Washington, D.C. earlier in the month.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINES: Mariah Grunze (seven), Madison Friebel (seven) and Marissa McKelvey (three) have each recorded multiple double-doubles in the first 19 contests of the season. Grunze averages 9.3 kills and 8.2 digs, while Friebel has averaged 35.3 assists and 9.8 digs per match.

Grunze recorded three consecutive double-doubles against  Creighton, Providence and Georgetown.

KINLEY PLAYING WITH CONFIDENCE: Libero Jaymeson Kinley recorded 6.17 digs/set over the weekend with 19 against St. John's and 18 vs. Seton Hall. She has now recorded double-digits digs in every match but one so far while averaging 5.38 per set, which is on pace to break Megan Knightly's single-season program record set in 2005 of 5.29 digs/set.

Kinley secured a career-high 31 digs in the opening match of the Chippewa Invitational against Youngstown State.

DAVIDSON DOMINATES: Melody Davidson had another efficient weekend posting a combined 22 kills on 54 attacks and only four errors for a .333 hitting percentage.

Davidson has tallied double-digit kills in 14 of 18 matches this season and double-digit points in all but three of them. She is hitting .326 on the season (sixth in the BIG EAST) and on pace to have the third-best hitting percentage in a season in Butler volleyball history.

CAN YOU DIG IT: Butler's defense features five players averaging at least two digs per set, with Kinley (5.38), Friebel (2.72), Grunze (2.31), McKelvey (2.18) and Jillian Ziemba (2.13).

In addition to Kinley, Friebel, Grunze, McKelvey and Ziemba, Bulldogs with double-digit digs in a match so far this season include Caroline Cleveland, Hannah Kelly and Brittany Robinson.

SERVING STRONG: Butler had a season-high 12 aces against St. John's, which is tied for the third-most of any BIG EAST team in a match this season. Only UConn has had more service aces in a match so far.

The Bulldogs have increased their aces/set to 1.45 in BIG EAST play compared to 1.21 in nonconference action.

INJURY REPORT: Friebel returned to the lineup, while Hannah Kelly was still out against the Red Storm and Pirates.

Butler has had at least five student-athletes miss matches this season due to injury/illness.

UP NEXT: Butler will travel east for its second BIG EAST roadtrip of the season. The Bulldogs will take on Seton Hall in New Jersey on Saturday night before heading to Queens, New York for a matchup with St. John's on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs sport a 9-6 record against the Pirates after dropping last week's match vs. Seton Hall, while they improved the program's all-time record vs. the Red Storm to 10-5 with the recent sweep of St. John's.
