Butler defender Griffin DeBolt has been named BIG EAST Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, and, in addition, Bulldogs goalkeeper Gabriel Gjergji has been named Goalkeeper of the Week. The pair were recognized for their performances in back-to-back victories over Xavier and No. 20 Providence.

The pair helped anchor a defense that allowed only six shots on goal from Musketeers and five from the Friars, ultimately giving up only one goal in each match.

Gabriel Gjergji, the senior keeper, picked up two wins as he made four saves against Xavier and matched that production in the follow-up, versus No. 20 Providence.

Griffin DeBolt, also a senior, converted a game-winning penalty kick in the 63^rd minute of a 2-1 win over Xavier. Against No. 20 Providence, he sent a 30-yard cross from the left sideline directly to the far post which led to an own goal when a PC defender headed the ball into the net. This provided the winning margin in the 2-1 upset victory.

For Gjergji, the honor is the third of his career, and for DeBolt, it is his first career recognition.

The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday, hosting Marquette.
