#8 Indiana Defeats @ButlerUWBB 86-63 in Season Opener

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Hoosiers posted an 86-63 victory over the Butler Bulldogs on Wednesday night in front of 2,360 fans. Nicole Cardano-Hillary led all players with 29 points. The Bulldogs were led in the scoring column by freshman Alex Richard.
 
How It Happened
Richard and Zoe Jackson combined for 38 of Butler's 63 points on Wednesday night to lead the Bulldogs. Richard earned the start didn't miss a shot over the opening 20 minutes. She led all players with 12 at the half and would end with a team-best 20. Jackson also shot a great percentage from the field to net her 18 points.
 
The Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field and Indiana was equally as impressive shooting 52 percent. Cardano-Hillary only missed one shot and was 7-for-8 from 3-point range to lead all players with 29 points. Grace Berger added 18 points and Ali Patberg was the team leader in assists with 10.
 
Indiana led Butler 7-2 early, but the Bulldogs would move forward and cut the lead to just two with 1:30 to play in the first frame. That two-point cushion would ride into the second quarter with 7:53 to play in the first half.
 
The big moment on Wednesday night followed the second quarter media timeout. Indiana went on an 8-0 scoring run to push the lead to 10 and forced BU into a timeout. The Hoosiers led 43-32 at the half and Cardano-Hillary would score 19 in the second half to keep IU on top.

Alex Richard filled up the box score with 20 points (10-for-13 shooting), four rebounds, one steal and one assist in 25 minutes of playing time.

"Zoe was a spark plug off the bench," Godlevske added. "She's a gamer. I loved her ability to get downhill on a very good, experienced IU team."
