INDIANAPOLIS – The Leathernecks hit 16 3-pointers against the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon to collect a 73-46 victory. BU shot 27 percent from the field and 17 percent from long range to move to 0-2 on the year. With the win, Western Illinois improves to 1-1.
How It Happened
Western Illinois outscored Butler 20-9 in the first quarter and would never look back to record their first win of the season. Elizabeth Lutz scored 13 points, dished out a team-high seven assists, and pulled down five rebounds to lead the Leathernecks to victory. Teammate Danni Nichols led all players with 16 points and two WIU student-athletes would come off the bench to net 12 points.
Butler was led by
Emilia Sexton and her 10-point outing.
Trinity White came off the bench to add eight.
Alex Richard followed up her 20-point outing against #8 Indiana with seven points, five rebounds and a team-best four steals.
Zoe Jackson was also an impact player with seven points, three boards and four assists.
