POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Butler football team scored 14 points in the second quarter and 14 more in the fourth to post a 28-21 road win at Marist on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs end the 2021 season with a 3-8 overall record.
The Bulldogs rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns against the Red Foxes.
Joey Suchy led the way with 75 yards on the ground and two touchdowns.
AJ Deinhart rushed 14 times for 50 yards and
Bret Bushka would take off six times for 29 yards and a score.
Bushka would complete 16 of his 23 pass attempts for 176 yards. He found
Johnny O'Shea five times for 74 yards and also completed five passes to
Yogi Flager for 60 yards.
Butler's defense got after the quarterback on Saturday and that pressure would also help the 'Dawgs create a few turnovers.
Jacob Cain,
Jordan Caselberry,
Eloi Bigirimana and
Jack Belskis all had a sack vs. the Red Foxes.
Cain also was credited with forcing a fumble at the goal line that kept Marist out of the end zone.
Mac Menard would fall on the ball and BU would then travel 99 yards over 23 plays to take a fourth quarter lead. The defense wasn't done there.
Trey Mason helped seal the win with an interception returned for a touchdown. Mason jumped the route and returned the ball 12 yards for six points.
Mason's touchdown return with 5:22 to play in the fourth was critical because Marist scored late on a 48-yard throw and catch from Day to Landis. The Red Foxes would line up for an onside kick after the deep ball, but BU would recover and take a knee to claim their first PFL win of the season.
