INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler volleyball team beat Xavier in four sets (25-16, 25-19, 28-30, 25-15) Sunday afternoon in Hinkle Fieldhouse in the final match of the season. The Bulldogs (16-15, 10-8 BIG EAST) sent seniors

Set 1: Butler 25-16
A 4-0 run including kills by
Megan Sheridan and
Amina Shackelford and an ace from
Madison Friebel catapulted the Bulldogs to an early 9-4 lead. A later 3-0 streak consisting of kills by Sheridan and
Mariah Grunze plus a Grunze ace extended the advantage to five at 17-12. A later 5-0 run put Butler up 24-14, and the Bulldogs would go on to clinch the set on a service error from Xavier. Sheridan led the Butler offense with five kills in the opening frame, while Grunze and
Jaymeson Kinley added six kills each on the defensive end.
Set 2: Butler 25-19
The Musketeers used a 3-0 run early to lead 8-5. However, Butler responded with an 11-3 streak to climb ahead 16-11. Grunze and Robinson contributed two kills apiece during the set-deciding stretch. Xavier would eventually get with two at 20-18, but a 5-1 Butler run, including back-to-back Friebel aces before a Shackelford kill clinched it, put the set away for the Bulldogs. Grunze and Sheridan had three kills each in the second period.
Set 3: Xavier 30-28
After Xavier led 10-4, the Bulldogs went on a 10-1 tear to gain a 14-11 lead. Ziemba had two aces in the early stages of the run. The Musketeers responded with an 11-4 run to reclaim the lead at 22-18, but the Bulldogs again fought back on Ziemba's serve, using a 5-0 run to go ahead 23-22. Butler fought off four Xavier set points the rest of the way, but the Musketeers clinched the set on a block. Ziemba had all three of her aces on the day in the third frame.
Set 4: Butler 25-15
With Xavier leading 9-7, Butler went on an 8-1 run to go up 15-10. The Bulldogs used a 4-0 run, including kills by Davidson and Grunze and an ace from Robinson, to clinch the set and match. Davidson, Grunze and Robinson had three kills each in the final frame to lead the Butler offense.
