INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs evened their overall record on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over Marian. The match marked the end of non-conference action as the 'Dawgs now shift their focus to the DePaul Blue Demons for two matches this coming weekend.
How it Happened
Marian played well from the opening serve and would score the first three points of night. Butler tied it at 12-12 off a kill from
Melody Davidson, but the Knights would counter with a 5-0 run forcing the Bulldogs into a timeout.
Butler's second timeout came with the Bulldogs trailing 20-13. The pep talk worked and BU would get back within three at 22-19. After a Marian timeout, Butler would score back-to-back points to pull within one and a bad set would knot the score moments later at 23-23.
Megan Sheridan got Butler to set point and a Knight attack error would seal the comeback 25-23.
Butler doubled Marian up at 6-3 in the second set. That difference would disappear after a Marian run with the Knights tying the action at 8-8. Neither side could take control as the teams rolled along to 16-16. The first timeout came from Marian with BU owning a 21-18 lead. The Knights were great after the stoppage and were able to tie the set once again at 21-21. Robinson broke up the tie for BU and supplied the team with back-to-back kills. A solo block by
Amina Shackelford would get the 'Dawgs to set point and Butler would go up 2-0 with a 25-22 victory.
Butler broke a 9-9 tie in the third with an ace by
Jaymeson Kinley, but the two evenly matched teams pushed forward to an 18-18 tie. Maddie Friebel's serve was a big difference down the stretch as the Bulldogs scored three-straight to force Marian into a timeout.
Marisa Guisti put Butler to match point and the 'Dawgs would win 3-0 after a Knight attack error.
