Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | John Dedman

@ButlerMBB Defense Locks Down in 61-52 Win Over Seton Hall

POINTS OF EMPHASIS:
  • Butler overcame a two-point halftime deficit (26-24) and led by as many as 16 in the second half. The Bulldogs opened the second half with a 20-6 run (leading 44-32 with 11:06 to play).
  • Jair Bolden led the Bulldogs with 16 points, all of which came in the second half. His first three-pointer of the night (giving Butler a 29-26 lead with 18:31 to play) pushed him over 1,000 career points (including this season at Butler and previous seasons at South Carolina and George Washington).
  • The 52 points allowed to Seton Hall are the fewest scored by a Butler opponent this season.
  • Bryce Nze returned to the line-up after missing the last two games with a groin injury. He posted 11 points and 13 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season and the 14th of his career.
  • Butler out-rebounded Seton Hall, 36-28.
  • Butler freshman Chuck Harris scored 14 points and matched a career-high with six rebounds. He added five assists.
  • The Bulldogs went 15-of-16 from the free throw line. Butler entered the night shooting .631 from the charity stripe, which was 325th nationally. Seton Hall got to the line only seven times.
  • Butler shot 58 percent from the field in the second half (11-of 19).
  • Butler played without starting guards Aaron Thompson (shoulder/thumb) and Bo Hodges (calf) for the second consecutive game. Thompson also missed the Jan. 2 loss at Seton Hall, while Hodges had not had his NCAA waiver for immediate eligibility approved at that point in the season.
  • Butler limited Seton Hall to 38-percent shooting, and only a 6-of-27 clip from three-point range.

Coach LaVall Jordan: "Really proud of the effort all night. We did a great job of sticking to the gameplan, especially defensively. We knew what we wanted to do offensively and were able to get some good looks. I thought we were connected on both ends of the court and the guys really locked in to the prep over the last few days. Having (Bryce) Nze back for us was big. We're going to continue to get better and stay committed to growing as a group."

RECORDS: Butler is now 8-13 (7-11 BIG EAST); Seton Hall is now 13-10 (10-7 BIG EAST)

UP NEXT: The Bulldogs host Villanova Sunday at noon. The game will air on CBS.
