Six Bulldogs recorded goals on Tuesday night as the Butler women's soccer team defeated Indianapolis in dominant fashion, bringing down the Greyhounds 8-0 in their 2021 season opener.

How it Happened:
The Bulldogs wasted no time finding the back of the net, scoring three in the match's first half.

Sophomore
Maddie Farnsworth opened the Bulldogs scoring in the ninth minute with a blistering shot that the goalie was unable to handle, putting the Dawgs on the board first. Farnsworth's goal would ultimately be the game-winner for Butler.Â

Eleven minutes later, Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team selection
Anja Savich added another for the Dawgs off of an assist from
Katie Soderstrom, another Preseason ALL-BIG EAST honoree. Savich would add her second tally of the night with 11 minutes remaining in the half.

In the second half, the Bulldogs stayed well in control of the match, netting five goals in the second half.
Gretchen Skoglund opened the scoring in the second half in the 51' to put Butler up 4-0. Twenty minutes later, Skoglund would add her second tally of the match off
Gabby Smith's assist.

Eight minutes later, Smith would score her first goal of the season, putting the Bulldogs lead at six with 11 minutes left in the half.

In the 84th minute,
Amanda Kowalski would score her first of the season and then four minutes later had the assist on the Bulldogs final goal of the game that came from
Becky Dean.

Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the year,
Stephanie Rodriguez, netted her tenth career shutout and first of the 2021 campaign. Rodriquez recorded two saves on the night for the Bulldogs.

Stats So Far:
- Savich, who was tied for first on the team in goals last season with eight, picked up where she left off, adding two scores in the match
- Farnsworth and Skoglund both scored their first goals in a Butler uniform. Farnsworth's would prove to be the game-winner and Skoglund picked up a second goal in the contest.Â
- Smith, Kowalski, Farnsworth, and Dean all added their first tallies of the season with Smith and Kowalski both adding an assist each as well.
- Rodriquez notched a shutout in her first outing since November 2019. She now has 10 career-shutouts in 20 starts as a Bulldog.Â

The Bulldogs will open their home schedule on Friday, Feb. 12 with an exhibition against cross town rival Ball State. Kickoff is set for 2 PM at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind.
