INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs are 1-0 at the start of the 2021 season after scoring 16 runs in a victory over the visiting DePauw Tigers.
Freddie Matos hit a three-run home run in his first Butler at-bat and the Bulldogs would score 13 runs in the fourth inning to secure the win.

Dave Schrage collected his 100th win at Butler on Tuesday afternoon at Bulldog Park. BU scored 16 runs off 13 hits. Four different student-athletes recorded a multi-hit game.
Dan Harwood led the 'Dawgs from the plate with a 3-for-3 day that included three RBI and a run scored. Matos was the RBI leader with four. He went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
The 'Dawgs scored all 13 of their runs in the fourth inning with two outs. Harwood had a two-RBI single in the inning and
Zach Orn would do the same, sending a ball into right centerfield.
Aaron Steinhart and
Kollyn All would add to the damage by recording triples to right field. Eight of Butler's 13 total hits came in that fourth frame.
On the mound, the win went to starter
John MacCauley (1-0). He threw four innings, limiting the Tigers to just one hit. He struck out six and only walked two.
Alex Voss,
Joe Graziano, and
Nick Miketinac all threw one inning out of the bullpen.
Butler will return to the diamond this weekend with a three-game series against Purdue Fort Wayne. BIG EAST Preseason Pitcher of the Year
