INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler baseball team moved to 1-1 on the season after taking a 6-3 loss to Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday afternoon. The Mastodons recorded 12 hits to post those six runs, while BU was limited to seven. Each side was charged with two errors.
Purdue Fort Wayne scored one run in the first, two in the second, two in the fourth and one more in the eighth to find the win column. Butler matched Purdue Fort Wayne with one run in the first inning. They added single runs in the second and seventh as well.
Keenan Taylor and
Brody McGrath each recorded two hits for the 'Dawgs. Taylor,
Dan Harwood, and
Zach Orn would all be credited with an RBI in the setback.
The loss went to
Connor Schultz (0-1) and the win went to Justin Miller (2-1). Schultz exited the game after just two innings. BU used
Alex Voss,
Nick Eaton and
Scott Wright in relief.
Purdue used Kevin Fee and Ryan Robison out of the bullpen. Robison started the game as the designated hitter but would find himself on the mound by the end of the day to pick up his second save of the season.
These two teams will return to the diamond tomorrow for a 2 PM first pitch.
