SCOUTING VALPARAISO: The Valparaiso football team is 1-1 on the year with a victory over Butler and a recent loss to Drake. Over the first two games, Valpo has ran the ball well, but has struggled to gain yards through the air. Robert Washington was electric against BU with 199 rushing yards in the season opener. He was bottled up vs. Drake with just 21 yards on seven carries. QB Chris Duncan has only completed 19 passes over the first two weeks of the season. He averages 98 passing yards per contest.

Valpo scored first in the 17-6 setback to Drake, but would not find the end zone, leading to a Bulldog win.

LAST GAME VS. VALPO: Butler lost the turnover battle (-2) against Valparaiso which led to the 10-point loss in the season opener. The 'Dawgs fumbled late in the second quarter which led to the go-ahead Valpo TD to end the first half. The 'Dawgs were then picked off in the fourth quarter after the Valpo 20-yard passing TD with 9:11 to play.

Valpo returned the first half fumble 35 yards to the Bulldog 30-yard line. They would score with no time left on the game clock to take their first lead of the game.

LAST WIN VS. VALPO: Drew Bevelhimer hit a 38-yard field goal with no time remaining on the game clock to give BU a 24-21 win over Valparaiso in 2019. Butler traveled 44 yards on just three plays in 19 seconds to record the victory. Valparaiso had tied the game at 21-21 late in the fourth quarter on an 11-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. BU would get 28 yards on the kickoff return from AJ Deinhart and a 15-yard pass from Sam Brown to Stephen Dennis put the ball at the Don Benbow 50-yard line with 10 seconds to play. Chaos would follow on the next play as Brown tucked the ball away and scrambled for a gain of nine yards. Valpo would be flagged for a 15-yard personal foul, moving the ball into field goal range. Bevelhimer lined up from 43-yards out on his first attempt, but the kick was short. The 'Dawgs got another chance at the win because Valpo was flagged for an offsides call. Two Valpo timeouts would follow the missed kick, but in the end Bevelhimer connected from 38-yards to give Butler the win.

BU outscored Valpo 17-7 in the second half to win the game. Sam Brown threw touchdown passes to Stephen Dennis and Johnny O'Shea. Nick Orlando also rushed for a TD.

HOOSIER HELMET: The Hoosier Helmet will be on the line this Saturday. Butler hosted Valpo in 2019, making this the official contest for the trophy.
