The Butler women's lacrosse team fell to Connecticut 22-11 on Friday at Varsity Field in the first game of the conference weekend series. Butler (0-4, 0-3) and Connecticut (7-2, 3-0) will meet again on Sunday at noon.
How it Happened:
Butler got off to a strong start on offense, netting three goals in the first five minutes of play. Butler was up 2-1 before the Huskies evened it and went up again at 3-2. UConn went on a four goal run before the Bulldogs could answer again, leading 6-3 after 10 minutes of play.
The Huskies went on to tally 11 more goals in the opening period compared to the Bulldogs' four, putting UConn up 16-7 at the half.
Butler's
Kayla Kielbasa and UConn's leading scorer Sydney Watson were handed two yellow cards each in the first half, eliminating them from second-half play.
Scoring slowed in the second period as Butler's defense made plays. Due to a 10-point differential at 17-7, most of the period saw running clock. The Bulldogs cut the lead to nine on two separate occasions, but only to have the Huskies respond for a double-digit lead.
Butler limited UConn to just two goals in the final ten minutes, letting the clock expire with a final score of 22-11.
A total of 10 yellow cards were handed out, five to each team.
