The Bulldogs concluded a strong weekend of play in Chattanooga by splitting a pair of contests Sunday.
By taking three of out four over the weekend, Butler is now 7-7 on the season.
The Bulldogs shut out the host Mocs for the second consecutive day in Butler's final game of the weekend. Butler came away with a 5-0 decision with much of the work being done by
Karli Ricketts.
In the circle, the junior righthander posted her second shutout of the weekend by allowing only three hits in her seven innings of work. She struck out nine. At the plate, Ricketts' three-run home run to center in the third inning pushed the Bulldogs' cushion to 4-0. Ricketts also had the first RBI of the game with a groundout in the first inning.
The Bulldogs had eight hits in the contest, with
Lauren Fey going 2-for-4 at the plate.
One day after the Bulldogs shut out Green Bay, the Phoenix were able to string together two runs for a 2-1 win. Those two runs were the only runs allowed by Butler over the four-game weekend.
Greta Thompson got Green Bay on the board first with a solo home run in the top of the third inning. Butler freshman
Teagan O'Rilley matched that with a solo home run of her own in the bottom of the frame. It was the first collegiate home run of O'Rilley's career.
The deciding run came in the fifth inning as Green Bay was able to push across an unearned run.
Madison Seigworth took the tough loss for the Bulldogs, going 4.1 innings in the circle for Butler.
Mackenzie Griman pitched the final 2.2 innings.
Green Bay's Kayla Schwebke allowed only four hits and two walks to the Bulldogs in picking up the win.
The Bulldogs open BIG EAST play next weekend at Seton Hall. The three-game series is scheduled to include a Saturday doubleheader and a single game Sunday.
