CINCINNATI – Butler dropped game one 7-2, roared back with a 7-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at Hayden Field.
Dan Harwood hit two home runs in the finale to lift BU to victory. The two programs will meet for the fourth time tomorrow at 1 PM.
Butler scored two runs in the top of the first inning at Xavier in game one, but wouldn't cross home plate again giving the home team a 7-2 victory.
Aaron Steinhart opened up the scoring with a single that scored
Freddie Matos and
Robbie McCargar would push the BU lead to 2-0 on a fielder's choice that sent
Dan Harwood home.
Xavier jumped back into the scene in the third inning with Helmin clearing the bases on a double to left. Monatra walked with the bases loaded in the fourth to move the score to 4-2. The home team would get an RBI single from Franzoni in the fifth and take advantage of an error to get to the final score of 7-2.
Nick Eaton wore the loss while Lane Flamm earned the win (2-2). Flamm tossed 5.1 innings and Michael Dillon would record the final five outs for Xavier.
Butler grabbed their seventh win of the season in the nightcap with a 7-3 victory. BU scored four in the third, one in the seventh and two more in the eighth to find the win column.
Harwood hit a grand slam in the third inning to set the tone for the rest of the game. Altenberger got a run back for the home team with a double down the line, but BU pushed back with an RBI single from McGrath in the seventh.
Schultz homered for Xavier in the seventh, but that was countered in the eighth with a round tripper from Harwood.
Connor Schultz would earn the win on the mound with a seven inning performance.
John MacCauley tossed the final two frames to get BU the win.
