@ButlerWLacrosse Hosts Marquette to Close BIG EAST Schedule

The Butler women's lacrosse team hosts Marquette in the final home stand of the season, closing BIG EAST play. Butler will open the weekend series on Friday, April 23 at 3 p.m. at Varsity Field, with game two scheduled for Sunday, April 25 at noon. On Sunday, the Bulldogs will recognize 15 seniors who will be playing in their last match for the Bulldogs.
 
Bulldog Bits
  • Kayla Kielbasa and Lindsey Schreiber each had three goals between the two-game series at Georgetown last weekend.
  • Freshman Leah Rubino is leading the team in ground balls (21), caused turnovers (22), and draw controls (16).
  • Kayla Kielbasa is tied for fourth in the BIG EAST in free- position goals with
  • Campbell Connors, Leah Rubino, and Karina Latsko each had two goals against Denison.
  • KK Callaghan is tied with Schreiber for team-high in goals, each with 10 a piece. Callaghan also has two assists for a team-high 12 points.
  • Greer Bireley and Leah Rubino lead the team with four assists each.
  • 17 Bulldogs have scored at least one goal this season, and 14 have at least one assist.
  • Butler is returning nine starters from last season, including 2020 leading scorer Gabryelle Bodine
  • The Bulldogs return three players who earned BIG EAST Weekly Awards last season in goalie Amanda Rumsey and attackers Kaley Attaway and Connors.
  • Three current Bulldogs, Ashley Guerra, Amanda Rumsey, and Katie McGrath, hold at least one individual career record in Butler's program history.
 
Last Time Out
The Bulldogs last outing was a weekend series against Georgetown which saw Butler drop both matches, 19-6 and 18-7, while on the road. Kayla Kielbasa and Lindsey Schreiber each had three goals and an assist on the weekend for Butler. The Bulldogs are still looking for their first win in BIG EAST play this weekend. 
 
 
Scouting Marquette
The Golden eagles come into the weekend series with a record of 5-9 overall while posting a 2-6 record in conference. Caroline Steller leads the Golden Eagles with 35 goals and 11 assists for a season total of 46 points. Her supporting cast is not far behind as Megan Menzuber has also added 33 goals and 12 assists for a total of 45 points. Sophia Leva has spent nearly 700 minutes between the pipes this season and has posted a 11.87 GAA on the year thus far.
 
Series History
Marquette holds the lead in the all-time series between the two programs with a record of 3-0. This weekend's series will mark the fourth and fifth matchup between the Bulldogs and the Golden Eagles as Butler looks to draw the all-time record closer. The last meeting between the two sides was April 2019 when the Bulldogs traveled to Milwaukee, Wis. and fell to the Golden Eagles, 16-3.
 
Senior Sunday
Butler will honor 15 seniors on Sunday, April 25 prior to first draw of game two. Alexandra Armstrong, Kayla Bartl, Jaden Bertuzzi, Emily Chironna, Elizabeth Davide, Ashley Guerra, Madeline Hooks, Grace Lagoner, Mary Larson, Karina Latsko, Lindsey McShea, Katelyn Murphy, Morgan Paige, Amanda Rumsey and Ashley Steffes will all be recognized.
