The Butler women's tennis team will advance to the BIG EAST Quarterfinals after a 4-0 decision over No. 10 seed Seton Hall in the first round of matches in Cayce, S.C. on Thursday, April 22. Butler will face No. 2 seed DePaul in the next round.
The Bulldogs started the match with a slight advantage, winning the No. 3 doubles flight, along with the No. 5 and No. 6 singles by default.
Butler built on that advantage in doubles as
Natalie Boesing/
Lauren Marx won at the No. 1 flight to take the first point of the match. With two singles defaults, the Bulldogs went up 3-0, needing just one win between four individual flights to secure the match.
Delaney Schurhamer wasted no time securing the clincher, posting impressive 6-1 wins in straight sets.
Natalie Boesing was also up one set to none in the top flight when Schurhamer closed out the win.
The Bulldogs will look to avenge a 2-4 loss to the Blue Demons from earlier this season. In the last meeting, Schurhamer and
Sara Linn grabbed singles wins for Butler.
First serve with the Blue Demons is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday, April 23 at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
