Butler and Providence played to a 4-4 tie Sunday afternoon in Rhode Island. The teams got off to a later start than scheduled due to rain and then were forced to call the game after nine innings and almost three hours of play due to Butler's travel plans.
With the result, Butler is now 16-16-1. Providence is 3-12-1.
The Bulldogs were able to overcome a 4-0 deficit with a four-run fifth inning.
Alyssa Graves went the distance for Butler, pitching all nine innings. She struck out 16. She allowed seven hits and five walks, but held the host Friars scoreless over the last five innings.
Butler only had four hits in the contest with
Lauren Fey posting three of those. She had a double and two RBI Sunday after hitting a grand slam in Saturday's second game. The Bulldogs were able to utilize four Providence errors.
Daniela Alvarez and Sarah Gunderson split time in the circle for the Friars. Alvarez gave up all four runs (two earned) over the first five innings.
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, hosting DePaul to start a three-game series.
