Euan Makepeace and
Remi Schyns both qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Championships in their respective events, the 5,000-meter and 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Makepeace finished fourth overall in the men's 5,000-meter, securing his spot at the national championship meet with a time of 13:41.21. His time is just a few seconds off his school record mark of 13:30.55 in the event, which he set earlier in the year at the Oregon Relays in Eugene.
In an impressive showing, Schyns glided to a top-12 qualifying spot in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, taking third overall with a personal-best time of 8:40.39. Schyn's will join Makepeace and
Barry Keane to represent the Butler men in Eugene.
Freshman
Jesse Hamlin just missed qualifying for the championships, finishing 18
th in the 1,500-meter, clocking a 3:42.47. He placed 10
th in the top heat, but was pushed back overall after runners in the second heat took eight of the top-12 places.
Hamlin qualified for Friday's quarterfinals on Wednesday with a time of 3:43.87 that was third in his heat and ninth among the 48 runners.
Tom Pitkin was 23
rd in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53:06, thus ending his season in the event. Pitkin advanced to Friday's quarterfinals with a time of 51.78 on Wednesday, which was good for third in the heat.
Brendan Watkins finished 40
th overall in the triple jump, landing a mark of 14.73m. The event was his event of the weekend, as he placed 39th in the long jump on Wednesday, registering a mark of 7.01 meters (23 feet).
Friday's meet served as the men's final event day of the East Regional. Butler's
Angelina Ellis (3,000-meter steeplechase) and
Kami Hankins (5,000-meter) will compete tomorrow for the Bulldog's last showing of the weekend.
