The BIG EAST and Big 12 Conferences have announced the dates and match-ups for the third year of the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle. Butler will travel to Oklahoma for a Tuesday, December 7 game in Norman.
The television designation and game time will be announced at a later date.Â
The BIG EAST-Big 12 match-ups, which will be played in December, were jointly determined by the two conferences. Broadcast arrangements for the games will be determined by the national television rights holder of the home team, which is FOX Sports for the BIG EAST and ESPN for the Big 12.Â
Butler and Oklahoma have met five times previously with the Sooners owning a slight 3-2 advantage. The teams last played in the 2014 Battle 4 Atlantis. Two of the match-ups have been on campus, a Butler win at home during the 1965-66 season and an Oklahoma win in Norman during the 1967-68 campaign. Current Butler Athletic Director Barry Collier led the Bulldogs to a win over Oklahoma in the 1997 Big Island Invitational in Hawaii.
The most notable match-up in the series came in the 2003 Sweet 16 when Oklahoma defeated Butler, 65-54, in Albany, N.Y. That was Butler's first Sweet 16 appearance since 1962. The 2003 contest was the final game in a Butler uniform for a talented senior class that included the late Joel Cornette, who was inducted into the Butler Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.
Butler is 0-1 in the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle, falling at Baylor in 2019. The Bulldogs were scheduled to host Kansas State in 2020, but the game was canceled due to COVID issues within Butler's program at that time.
Oklahoma has been part of the field in each of Butler's three most recent multi-team events (MTE), but the two teams did not play in any of those three Thanksgiving Week tournaments (2019 Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City, 2018 Battle 4 Atlantis, the PK80 in Portland in 2017).
Season tickets for the upcoming 2021-22 Butler men's basketball season are on sale now. Additional non-conference games will be announced in the coming weeks.

Coach LaVall Jordan enters his fifth season guiding the Butler program. The Bulldogs return their top 11 scorers from a season ago. Oklahoma advanced to the Round of 32 in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, falling to top-seeded Gonzaga in a game played at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Porter Moser, who spent the last 10 seasons leading the Loyola Chicago program, begins his first season at Oklahoma.
The four-year agreement between the two conferences will continue through the 2022-23 season with an equal number of games played in each conference's home market each year.Â
