Phil Steele's 2021 Fall FCS All-American and All-Conference Teams

Six members of the Butler football team were recognized on Phil Steele Preseason All-Pioneer Football League Teams over the weekend. Wide receiver Yogi Flager and offensive lineman Skyler Spetter were First Team honorees. Defensive back Devin Aguilar was tabbed Second Team, while wide receiver Johnny O'Shea, offensive lineman Grant Purlee, and defensive lineman Jordan Caselberry were selected to the Third Team.

Flager was excellent for Butler during his first year on campus. He caught 24 passes for 387 yards and a touchdown in a shortened six-game spring season. Flager was a Hero Sports' Freshman All-American and a 2020-21 All-Pioneer League Second Team selection. Coaches and teammates also picked Flager for Butler's Newcomer of the Year award.

Spetter joined Flager on the First Team. In 2021, Spetter started in all six games at right tackle. He was part of an offensive line unit that helped Butler average 104 rushing yards and 224 passing yards per game. The BU offensive line only allowed six sacks this spring. After the campaign, Spetter was tabbed All-Pioneer League Second Team and won the Battle of the Trenches Award among his teammates, recognizing the Most Valuable Offensive Lineman on the team.

Phil Steele Preseason All-PFL Second Team honors went to defensive back Devin Aguilar. He played as a team captain this spring, starting in all six games. Aguilar led Butler with 33 total tackles. He also intercepted a pass vs. Morehead State.

Aguilar and Caselberry were each 2020-21 All-PFL honorable mention selections after the completion of the spring season. Caselberry heads into his redshirt-junior season after recording 17 tackles and 1.5 sacks in the spring. He took the other Butler Battle of the Trenches Award home after a vote from his peers, making him the Most Valuable defensive lineman on the team in 2020-21.

Joining Caselberry on the third team was O'Shea and Purlee. O'Shea was limited to just four games in the spring, but still earned All-PFL Second Team honors with 22 grabs for 271 yards. He averaged 12.3 yards per catch and 67.8 yards per game to lead BU. Purlee will break the huddle with O'Shea, Flager and Spetter this season. He played in all 12 games during the 2019 season, making six starts. Nothing changed in the spring of 2021 with Purlee starting in all six games at guard. He was a 2020-21 All-PFL honorable mention pick after his redshirt junior season.
