Full Notes

The Butler men's soccer team begins the fall 2021 regular season with a home match on Thursday, August 26, when the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland visit the Sellick Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 PM, following the women's soccer match against Northwestern.

Butler enters the season with several familiar faces on its roster. The Bulldogs return 10 of 11 starters, including 2020-21 All-BIG EAST selections Wilmer Cabrera, Jr., Rhys Myers, and Jack Haywood. The roster features ten newcomers, and its student-athletes hail from ten different states and an additional six different countries.

Head Coach Paul Snape enters his 11th season at the helm of the Bulldogs program. Butler has won 54 percent of its matches since he took over in 2011. Snape is a 2000 graduate of Oakland, where he was a four-year letterwinner and a two-year men's soccer captain.

Oakland's roster is also comprised of many veterans, as it returns 24 letterwinners from its 2020-21 squad, including all of its top point-earners. Six Grizzlies garnered All-Horizon League honors last season, including Player of the Year Noah Jensen (4g, 14a), Dylan Borczak (7g, 4a), Charlie Braithwaite (6g, 1a), Dawsun Schrum (4g, 7a), Reid Sproat and Jaiden Ramsay-Kelly. The Grizzlies finished the spring season with an overall record of 6-1-2, all against Horizon League opponents.

Butler ended the 2020-21 season with an overall record of 4-6-2 and a BIG EAST conference record of 4-4-2. The defense allowed only 14 goals in 12 matches, with five shutouts coming within the Bulldogs' eight BIG EAST matches. The Bulldogs will be seeking their sixth BIG EAST Tournament appearance in their nine years in the league as well as their tenth NCAA Tournament appearance.
