Lithuanian guard/forward Simonas "Simas" Lukosius has signed a financial aid agreement at Butler University. He is enrolled in classes and will be eligible to compete for the Bulldogs beginning with the 2021-22 season.

The 6-6 Lukosius from Kaunas, Lithuania brings high-level international experience, most recently playing for Telekom Baskets Bonn as part of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), which is the highest level league in Germany. Butler alum Kamar Baldwin will play in this league during the upcoming season for BG Gottingen, while Kelan Martin played for MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg during the 2018-19 season.

"We are excited for Simas to join our Butler Basketball family," said Butler head coach LaVall Jordan. "We made contact with him and started the recruiting process back in the spring. As we continued to evaluate him and grow our relationship, it became evident that he fit who we are both on and off the court. We have been working through the process to get him to the U.S for some time. Simas is a skilled, versatile offensive player with a high basketball IQ. He's played in a very competitive European league and we feel that experience will translate well to the BIG EAST. He's excited to join our program and our university, and we look forward to integrating him here both on our campus and our team."

In 2020-21, Lukosius played for Telekom Baskets Bonn in the first league of the BBL, averaging 9.4 minutes per game along with 2.9 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.6 assists per contest. Lukosius also played for Dragons Rhondorf in ProB, which is the third league, during the 2019-20 season. With Rhondorf, he averaged 14.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, shooting 47 percent from the field, 38 percent from three-point range, and 91 percent at the free throw line.

During the 2019-20 season, Lukosius played for the Dragons Rhondorf in ProB as well as Rhondorf's U-19 team. He played with Bayern Munich in the adidas Next Generation Tournament.

Lukosius graduated from Vilnius Minties High School.
