The Butler women's soccer team is preparing for a Sunday afternoon matchup at Ball State on September 12. The 1 pm kickoff will take place at Briner Sports Complex in Muncie, Ind.

The Bulldogs (5-1-0) most recently beat Wright State, their fifth win in as many matches. The Cardinals are coming off an 0-1 loss to the No. 23 Xavier. Against Wright State, Abigail Isger scored her third goal of the season, which was the fourth of her career. She also earned her fourth assist of the season – the eighth of her career. Katie Soderstrom's fourth goal of the season was the 20th of her career. Julia Leonard's assist was her first of the season and the fourth of her career.
  • The Bulldogs have scored 12 goals in six matches. (2.00 goals/match) and given up nine goals in six matches (1.50 goals allowed/match).
  • Five different players have scored goals in six matches this season, and seven different players have produced an assist.
  • Butler has taken 32 corner kicks this season while opponents have taken 16.
  • Forward Abigail Isger (3g, 4a, 10p) and midfielder Katie Soderstrom (4g, 1a, 9p) lead the Bulldogs in offensive points.
  • Soderstrom (4), Isger (3), and Gabby Smith (2) each have mutiple goals after six matches.
  • Three Bulldogs have three or more assists on the season: Isger (4), Alli Leonard (3), and Becky Dean (3).
  • Emma Martin was selected for the second time this season as BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.  The goalkeeper (5-0) has allowed five goals in six matches (five starts) this season and has recorded 18 saves (.783). Her goals against average is 0.96.
Scouting Ball State
  • Ball State finished 6-3-1 in the spring 2021 season, winning the MAC West Division crown and earning its second berth in the past three seasons into the MAC Championship match. The Cardinals have finished first or second in the league in each of the past six season and return 21 of 23 players who saw match action last season.
  • Ball State returned seven of the eight players who started all 10 matches in the 2020-21 campaign, including leading scorer Tatiana Mason (4g, 2a). Other 10-match starters returning include: Melissa Diceman (3g), Nicky Potts (1g, 4a), Jenna Dombrowski (2g), Shelby Kean (1g, 2a), Lexy Smith (3a) and Sammi Corcoran.
  • The Cardinals returned all four players who earned All-MAC honors last season in first team selections Nicky Potts and Lexy Smith, second team honoree Tatiana Mason, and all-freshman choice Mac Henson. In addition, head coach Josh Rife is the reigning MAC Coach of the Year.
  • Ball State's defense has been the stingiest in the MAC under head coach Josh Rife, surrendering a league-low 26 goals over the past two seasons.
