INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler football team will return to action this Saturday night with a 7 PM kickoff at Taylor. The Bulldogs are 1-1 overall after a 49-24 victory last time out on homecoming weekend. This contest marks the final non-conference opponent of the year with PFL competition set to begin on Sept. 25.

- Butler posted 544 yards of total offense vs. DePauw, averaging 7.5 yards per play
- 
Nick Orlando rushed for three touchdowns in the win over DePauw. He was a short-yardage specialist scoring from 1-yard, 2-yards then 1-yard
- 
Kavon Samuels posted his first 100-yard rushing game of the season on 23 carries. He scored in the second half from 2-yards out
- 
AJ Deinhart found the end zone for the first time in his BU career with an 11-yard rush in the second half
- 
Yogi Flager caught four passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns on homecoming weekend
- 
Bret Bushka connected on 11 of his 13 pass attempts to end the game with 161 yards. He also added 69 rushing yards

SCOUTING TAYLOR: The Trojans opened the season with a 42-26 win over Judson last weekend. Brendan Lamb rushed the ball 34 times for 109 yards and three scores to lead Taylor to victory. When the defense played the run, QB Levi Frazier would go over the top. The Trojan senior only completed five passes, but three of the five resulted in a touchdown. Dakohta Sonnichsen caught two balls for 105 yards and two scores. Brandon Smith also caught at TD pass in the win.
 
Taylor's defense forced two fumbles and came up with three interceptions vs. Judson. Three different players also recorded a sack.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES: Butler leads the all-time series against Taylor 8-1. The Trojans came out on top in the last meeting during the 2019 season. They left the Sellick Bowl with a 17-14 victory.
 
The first meeting between BU and Taylor came in 1965 under the direction of head coach Tony Hinkle. BU won that game 41-6.
 
30 FIRST DOWNS: Butler came up with 30 first downs against DePauw on Saturday. 21 of the 30 came on the ground with BU rushing for 383 yards in the victory
 
The Butler school record for most first downs recorded in a single-game is 32. BU recorded 32 first downs two times in 2012 and two more times in 2013.
 
49ER: Butler scored 49 points in their home opener which resulted in a 25-point victory. The game marked the highest point total for BU since Sept. 10, 2016.
 
Butler defeated Franklin 59-14 during the 2016 home opener. Malcolm Weaver threw three touchdowns and Duvante Lane rushed for three scores.
 
TOUCHDOWN BULLDOGS: Butler scored a touchdown on seven of their 10 possessions vs. DePauw. Their only punt came midway through the third quarter.
 
JJ Wadas has yet to miss a kick this year. He is a perfect 8-for-8 on extra points.
 
DEVIN LEADS THE DEFENSE: CB 
Devin Aguilar picked off two passes in the third quarter vs. DePauw. He now has six interceptions in his BU career.
 
The last Bulldog to intercept two passes in one game was Beau Snuggs. He had a pick in the third quarter vs. Stetson on Oct. 5, 2019 and would collect his second early in the fourth against the Hatters.
 
AROUND THE LEAGUE: PFL teams went 7-3 in Week 2 with the three losses coming on the road to nationally-ranked FCS foes.
 
PFL Player of the Week honors went to Mark Pappas (MSU), Brandon Easterling (Dayton), Johnson Fallah, and Louis Hyde (St. Thomas).
 
GROUND GAME: Butler rushed for 383 yards in the home opener just 29 yards short of the most team rushing yards in a single game in program history.
 
Kavon Samuels recorded his third 100-yard rushing performance of his career in the win vs. DePauw. 
 
OPEN UP THE OFFENSE: Yogi Flager caught the longest pass of the season last Saturday with a 49-yard reception thrown by Brett Bushka. 
Johnny O'Shea also pulled in a 40-yard catch.
 
The longest reception from last season was also 49 yards, caught by Johnny O'Shea and thrown by Sam Brown.
 
UP NEXT: Butler will battle St. Thomas in the PFL opener on Saturday, Sept. 25. Kick-off in St. Paul, Minn. is slated for 1 PM.
 
Butler and St. Thomas have never met on the gridiron. The Tommies just joined the PFL in 2021.
