@ButlerUWSoccer Scores in Final Minute to Defeat Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Butler women's soccer team won its BIG EAST opener in dramatic fashion, taking out Marquette with a last-minute goal. The Golden Eagles (4-4-0, 0-1-0) were called for a handball just outside of the penalty area with just under a minute to play. Defender Aliya Diagne stepped up and hit a left-footed shot through a gap in the Marquette wall and just under the crossbar, giving Butler (8-1-0, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) a thrilling 1-0 victory.

  • 48' | A Golden Eagles corner kick is punched away from in front of the goal by Butler keeper Emma Martin.

  • Aliya Diagne's goal was her first of the season and the fourth of her career. Three of her four goals have been game-winning goals.

Up Next
Butler returns to Indianapolis, Ind., to host Seton Hall in another BIG EAST match on Sunday, September 26, at 12 pm. The contest will be held at the Sellick Bowl and will be preceded by Senior Recognition ceremonies. Later in the week, the Bulldogs will travel to Queens, N.Y., to face St. John's on Thursday, September 30.
