Davidson Drops Butler to 2-2 with 31-0 Victory

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Butler and Davidson were separated by just three points at the half, but 14 points in the third quarter followed by 14 more in the fourth would push the Wildcats to victory on Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.

Davidson's rushing attack was on full display this afternoon with two Wildcats topping 100 yards on the ground. Dylan Sparks rushed the ball 16 times for a game-high 180 yards and Coy Williams was in the box score with 109 yards on a team-high 19 carries.  QB Jayden Waddell rushed for one score and Aaron Maione checked into the game for two touchdown runs on his only two carries of the game.

Waddell only attempted nine passes vs. the Bulldog defense with five going for completions. The final Davidson TD of the afternoon happened to be a 24-yard pass from Waddell to Bradyn Oakley.

For the Bulldogs, Bret Bushka completed 14 of his 29 pass attempts, but the Wildcats would pick him off three times, limiting him to just 150 yards passing. Johnny O'Shea caught a team-high three passes for 20 yards. Tyler Adams caught a 46-yard pass to mark the longest play of the day for BU.

Bushka kept the ball six times to gather 102 yards on the ground. AJ Deinhart would handle it seven times for 17 yards and Joey Suchy was in the box score with four carries for 22 yards.

Butler ran the ball 18 times compared to 72 carries for the Wildcats. Time of possession would reflect the run game statistics with Davidson hanging onto the ball for over 40 minutes. Game-changing plays also went with the home team, as John Tessman was responsible for two of the three interceptions for the Davidson defense. Connor Reid was the top Bulldog defender on Saturday with 14 stops.

The Bulldogs will return to action next Saturday with a home game vs. Dayton. The "Pink Out" event on Oct. 8 will get underway with a 1PM kick-off at the Sellick Bowl.
