Five Bulldogs earned All-BIG EAST honors for the 2022 women's soccer season, as chosen by the BIG EAST coaches and announced by the conference office Wednesday, November 2.
Abigail Isger was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, and teammate
Talia Sommer was chosen BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. Both Isger and
Katie Soderstrom were selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team, while Sommer and
Aliya Diagne earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Finally,
Amelie Darey joins Sommer as members of the All-BIG EAST Freshman Team.
Â
Butler posted a 4-3-3 record in conference action this season, finishing in a three-way tie for third in the final league standings.
Â
Isger, a redshirt-junior from Indianapolis, becomes the second Bulldog to win BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year honors, with Paige Monaghan initially garnering the award in 2017. Over 10 league matches, she finished second in the league in points with 11 and tallied four goals, including two game-winners. The forward's four goals are third in the league and her two match-winning goals are tied for second. Isger, who twice was selected as BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, has notched eight goals and 20 points over the season, which gives her an average of 1.18 points per game.
Â
Sommer, a freshman midfielder from Tel Aviv, Israel, is the third Butler player to be named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and the first since Anastasia Savich won the award back in 2017. She started all 10 league matches for the Bulldogs and earned 10 points in conference play, which is the most among all BIG EAST freshmen. The attacking midfielder also ranks third among all BIG EAST players with 1.00 points per game. Sommer, who was twice named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week this season, ranks third on her team with five goals on the year and second with four assists.
Â
Soderstrom, a redshirt-senior from Carmel, Ind., is now a four-time All-BIG EAST First Team selection. She leads the Bulldogs in assists (6) and is second in goals (6) and points (18). The forward/midfielder was a two-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week this season and was selected as National Player of the Week on August 24. On Butler's career lists, she is second all-time with 30 assists, fourth with 98 total points, and tied for fourth with 34 goals.
Â
Diagne, a senior from Neunkirchen, Germany, started every game this season, anchoring a defense that allowed only 24 goals in 19 total matches. The defender also registered 10 shots and tallied two assists.
Â
Darey, a freshman from Epsom, Surrey, England, started 18 matches for the Bulldogs in her first season on campus. The defensive midfielder scored one goal and added two assists.
