Butler and BYU have met only once – Dec. 19, 1930. The Bulldogs won, 45-34, at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The 45 points scored and the 34 points allowed were both season-highs for the 1930-31 Bulldogs, who were coached by Tony Hinkle.

The Bulldogs are looking to rebound from a 71-45 loss to No. 22/21 Tennessee Wednesday night in the teams' Battle 4 Atlantis opener. Butler fought foul trouble and a stiff Volunteer defense for much of the evening. A 17-1 Tennessee run turned a two-point game with 14:47 to play into an 18-point margin with 9:15 remaining. Five Bulldogs picked up two fouls in the first half as Butler attempted to stretch a lead, with
Manny Bates limited to five first-half minutes. Tennessee ended the half on a 10-0 run to take a 28-23 halftime lead.

BYU fell to USC by a score of 82-76 in Wednesday play at the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Wednesday night was the first time this season that Butler committed more turnovers than its opponent and the first time that Butler's opponent shot more free throws than the Bulldogs. Butler committed a season-worst 23 turnovers, while shooting only 32 percent from the field.

Jayden Taylor matched his season-high with 18 points; he has scored in double figures in every game this season. Taylor also matched his career-high with four three-pointers and had a career-best four steals.

DJ Hughes had a team-high six rebounds for the Bulldogs, the first time in his career that he led the team in rebounding.

Bates is seventh nationally in blocks at 3.2 per game; he has swatted multiple shots in all of the team's five games. He is shooting 73 percent from the field, which is 13
th nationally.
