SAINT LOUIS – The Butler football team placed four student-athletes on 2022 Academic All-Pioneer Football League Teams on Wednesday. Offensive Linemen Colton Ruhland and Bryan Bystol made the First Team while defensive back Connor Reid and teammate Luka Zurak made the Second Team.

Dayton senior running back Jake Chisholm earned the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, leading a group of 50 student-athletes named to the 30th Academic All-PFL teams. Chisholm is one of four PFL student-athletes to earn their third First-Team Academic All-PFL recognition this season. Butler offensive lineman Bryan Bystol, Morehead State offensive lineman Cam Marriott, Valparaiso offensive lineman Bradyn Oakley, and San Diego kicker Brandon Eickert earned their third first-team academic honor in 2022.

Pioneer Football League athletic directors established the Academic All-PFL squads in 1993 as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. To be eligible for Academic All-PFL consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, reached his second season academically and played at least one full season at his current institution.

Ruhland was a unanimous First Team selection with his 3.94 grade point average as a computer science major. Bystol also got the nod on the First Team with his 4.0 GPA as a middle/secondary education major.

Second Team selections went to Connor Reid and Luka Zurak. Reid is a finance major with a 3.56 GPA and Zurak is an economics major holding onto a 3.50 GPA.
